Education and Work

I went to university at Royal Holloway and Bedford New College (University of London) and graduated in 1992 with a 1st class honours degree in mathematics. Following that I studied Part III of the Mathematics Tripos at the Department of Applied Maths and Theoretical Physics (University of Cambridge) where I obtained a Certification of Advanced Study in Mathematics. I then moved to the University of Southampton to start my PhD. I graduated in 1997 with a PhD in "The Cauchy Problem in Spacetimes with Closed Timelike Curves". In 1998 I left academia to start work at Ordnance Survey as a systems developer. I left Ordnance Survey in 2000 to start work at a small software company called Neusciences where I gained experience in various A.I. techniques. After just ten months at Neusciences I returned to Ordnance Survey to work in the research department. I am still at Ordnance Survey, and currently working in the semantics research group on linked data. I produced the current Ordnance Survey linked data.

During my time working on semantics I have participated in the W3C Geospatial Incubator Group and served on the Steering Commitee for the OWLED workshop series. I currently chair the UK location council linked data working group.
